Welcome to alidrus2000's SHellium wiki page
About Me
I'm from Malaysia and have very recently obtained a shellium user account. Many thanks to the folks at SHellium for accepting me into their fold.
I am a bit an old-skool programmer. Although I am most comfortable and in my element when programming in PHP, I do have extensive experience in C and shell script programming. I also have some familliarity with Perl but I dont dabble in it much since I can do almost anything simillarly in PHP. Of late, I have embraced The Solar PHP framework as my library and framework of choice and try my best to contribute back to it (you can find some of my stuff here). Other programming languages I have previously used include, but are not limited to: BASIC (Applesoft, Integer, GWBASIC and BASICA), FORTRAN and Pascal.
Some of my favourite topics in programming include (among others), web services, text and XML parsing, SysV IPC, process forking (the pcntl extension on PHP) to simulate PHP CLI multi-threading on Linux/*nix, and socket programming. Don't worry though, I wont be doing the PHP forking stuff on SHellium ;-) as I know how precious shared resources can be especially when there are many users.
IRC
You can usually find me on the #shellium IRC channel under the nickname alidrus. I am usually also parked in #solar-talk.
Wiki Work
I have up until now made quite a few contributions to the wiki and hope to continue to do so for a long time to come. Before I started, I never knew that wikis could be so addictive engaging.

- I hate it when I click on a link in Malay and find that its actually a verbatim clone of some Indonesian translation. Translating from Indonesian to Malay is actually harder to do since the two languages look simillar but convey different meanings due to differences in terminology.
- I hate it when my brain isn't functioning properly and I accidentally replace another language's page with a Malay translation. Luckily, the few times that this did happen, one of the admins moved it to the proper location and reverted the change in the page of the original language.
My TO-DO list
-
Pace myself and not rush to do every single thing in one submit.(doing this now) - Correct some of the mistakes in terminology that I have made on this wiki in the past and practive what I preach.
- Seek out and destroy (i.e. mark Delete) all Malay wiki pages that are just verbatim clones of the corresponding Indonesian pages. Sorry, but I think copy-pasting some Indonesian page and passing it off as Malay (and worse still, your own work) is misleading and amounts to nothing more than plagiarism.
- Add (proper) Malay translations to all pages that need one.
- Create translated templates in Malay as and where needed for proper linking.
- Add Language Template to all Malay pages that need it, perhaps even make a Malay version of the language bar if deemed necessary.
- Contribute a few new articles of my own in English once I am done with the Malay translations.
