General

Okay, so you're behind a corporate firewall or university firewall and you need to join a shell service such as Shellium! However you haven't got any servers to SSH into to get past that pesky University firewall blocking port 6667 an such! I am going to teach you how to tunnel out with a free app that you can use to tunnel out while you get your shell all set up.

HTTP-Tunnel

  1. Firstly you need to go download a free app called HTTP-Tunnel. You can get it here.
  2. Next, once you have installed it, run the program. When it has loaded, click "Use Free Service". The program will now go and retrieve an IP to tunnel to.
  3. Click "Config" and select "No Proxy, Only Firewall", Press OK.

The app has now glady set us up a server on the localhost on port 1080. This will be used to tunnel your mIRC sessions through or even web traffic!

Using TOR

Download and install TOR (The onion router) software from here Start the software and then configure your client software to tunnel through the tor network as below. HTTP traffic should be sent to port 1080, and any other (socks) traffic should be sent to port 9050.

mIRC

  1. If you don't have mIRC, go install it from here
  2. Once it is all set up, or if it is already set up, continue to the next step.
  3. Goto Option in your mIRC
  4. Goto File -> Select Server
  5. Under the Connect list, click on "Firewall"
  6. Change "Firewall Support" to "Both" and the Protocol to "Socks4"
  7. In Hostname, enter "localhost" or "127.0.0.1"
  8. Leave UserID, and Password blank.
  9. Enter "1080" in Port.
  10. See Picture for Reference.

Summary

Hopefully now that you have that all set up, you should be able to tunnel both chat and DCC files through your Corporate firewall. This now allows you to work towards getting your Shell account at Shellium! Good luck!
